Frequently Asked Questions About GiganTium®

GiganTium® is a high-strength, commercially pure titanium material developed for the ICX Diamond implant system.
While conventional commercially pure titanium Grade IV is already well established in implantology, GiganTium® achieves significantly higher tensile strength through a rigorous material selection and processing approach — without the addition of alloying elements such as zirconium, aluminium or vanadium.
The result is a combination of high mechanical strength and titanium purity.
Dental implants are primarily manufactured from commercially pure (CP) titanium, particularly Grades II, III and IV.
Among these, Grade IV titanium has become widely established in implantology because of its high strength, excellent biocompatibility and long-standing clinical use.
Cold working and compaction can further increase the mechanical strength of Grade IV titanium.
Some implant manufacturers also use titanium alloys, such as titanium-zirconium, to achieve higher mechanical strength. These materials, however, are no longer commercially pure titanium.
This is where GiganTium® stands apart.
Material Approx. tensile strength
CP Titanium Grade IV ~700 MPa
GiganTium® ≥1,100 MPa
GiganTium® achieves a tensile strength of at least 1,100 MPa — approximately 60% higher than conventional Grade IV work-hardened titanium.
This high strength enables the design of implants with smaller diameters while maintaining a high level of mechanical stability.
The high mechanical strength of GiganTium® provides greater design flexibility, including the possibility of using smaller implant diameters in appropriate clinical situations.
This can be particularly relevant where anatomical limitations make implant diameter an important consideration.
As always, implant selection and loading protocols should be based on the individual clinical situation..

Mechanical strength is only one part of the equation.

ICX Diamond combines GiganTium® with a hydrophilic, micro-structured implant surface designed to support osseointegration.

This combination brings together two important aspects of implant performance:

GiganTium®
Mechanical Performance
  • High tensile strength
  • High resistance to mechanical fracture
  • 100% titanium
  • No alloying additives
Hydrophilic, Micro-Structured Surface
Biological Performance
  • Supports interaction between the implant surface and biological environment
  • Designed to promote osseointegration
  • Complements the implant’s high primary stability
Mechanical strength meets biological optimisation.
The process begins with strict selection of the titanium raw material.
Incoming titanium batches are tested for their mechanical strength. While conventional Grade IV titanium may show tensile strength values around 680–700 MPa, selected batches can reach 1,100 MPa or higher, with some exceeding 1,300 MPa.
Only titanium batches meeting the defined high-strength criteria are selected for the production of ICX Diamond implants.
This rigorous material selection is at the heart of GiganTium®.
High strength — without alloying additives.
No.
GiganTium® is based on 100% titanium and does not rely on alloying elements such as zirconium, aluminium or vanadium to achieve its mechanical properties.
This allows ICX Diamond to combine high mechanical strength with the established properties of commercially pure titanium.
GiganTium® technology was introduced in 2023 and has since been used in thousands of implantations.
According to medentis, approximately 30% of the implants currently delivered are manufactured from GiganTium®, with positive feedback from practitioners regarding both mechanical and biological performance.
No. GiganTium® is intentionally exclusive to the ICX Diamond family.
The Diamond name represents a dedicated combination of strength, precision and performance — and every ICX Diamond implant is manufactured from GiganTium®.
The ICX Diamond family includes:
  • ICX Diamond Premium
  • ICX Diamond Active
  • Bone-Level variants
  • Transgingival variants
  • Tuber implants
  • Zygoma implants

One name. One material. One promise.
